Speaking with GamesMaster, the producer behind Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Koichi Hayashida, recently spoke out about the possibility of having the character join other major Nintendo titles. The producer then explained that he currently doesn’t know what the future holds for the loveable explorer, but stated that he’d love to see him featured in a number of different titles from the Big N.
Opting not to pull any punches, Hayashida then admitted that he’d even contacted the director of the Mario Kart franchise in the hopes of having Captain Toad join as a playable racer.
Treasure Tracker’s director, Shinya Hiratake, was also probed in regards to the future of Captain Toad. Kiratake isn’t quite sure what fate awaits the character, but is excited about the the charismatic fungi’s future going forward.
Given the fact that Mario Kart 8 players are currently awaiting the title’s second pack of DLC, it wouldn’t be unfathomable to suggest that Captain Toad could still be added as downloadable content. Admittedly, both Toad and Toadette are currently found on the game’s roster, but that hasn’t stopped the game’s developer from adding the likes of Tanooki Mario and Cat Peach to a roster that’s already populated by numerous versions of both drivers.
Super Smash Bros. is another possibility game for Captain Toad, although there are currently no plans for Smash add-ons outside of the previously announced Mewtwo. Still, given the protagonist’s unique arsenal, he’d make for a very interesting fighter if Nintendo ever decided to unleash him upon the title’s hapless all-star roster.
Would you like to see Captain Toad made playable in current and future Nintendo games?
